Mitchian Building, Leicester

The Mitchian building is a residential development containing 15 luxury apartments and commercial offices with underground parking facilities.

The client, Mitchian Construction specialise in creating residential accommodation in and around Leicester city centre. BWP Plastering Services Ltd were contracted to provide design input and undertake the dry lining, SFS and plastering packages throughout. The client wanted to produce a unique, modern industrial aesthetic, with specific attention to creating light and space. BWP Plastering Services Ltd were able to bring this vision to life, creating unique contemporary spaces with a high-quality finish and attention to detail.

Initially, BWP Plastering Services Ltd formed the external walls using SFS. We then installed Glassroc -X external sheathing board to ensure water resistance. Internal partitions were then installed, and a rip system was used to ensure a time efficient process. MF ceilings were then created and boarded as were walls. Once boarding was complete, we created drop down bulkhead detailing to produce a unique lighting feature and sense of space. Rooms were then plastered throughout.

To continue the modern industrial design in the stairwells, the rib deck was left exposed. Because of this BWP Plastering Services Ltd had to ensure that plasterboards were cut using precision and attention to detail. We used templates to achieve this effect.

In the car parking level, in order to prevent cold bridging, we had to pack insulation in the ceilings. The client wanted to continue to bring the original design aesthetic into the underground space and steels were left exposed to give an industrial effect. MF ceilings were installed to produce this effect.

In the commercial office area, the client’s vision was a clean, contemporary space with the use of symmetry throughout the design. Bespoke ceiling details were created to hide air conditioning units, providing a more aesthetically pleasing finish. Ceilings and bulkheads were designed to line up with the tiled floor, creating the sense of symmetry the client requested.

BWP Plastering Services Ltd were able to work to the initial time frame given and the client was impressed with the results.
