This was a garage conversion project, transforming a single garage into a useable, family friendly living space.

The client required BWP Plastering Services Ltd to design and create a versatile living space with French doors to provide easy access to the rest of the house and a large external window to provide a sense of light throughout.

BWP Plastering Services Ltd initially removed the existing garage door, storage and ceiling to create an open shell. We then insulated the ceilings with 300mm insulation to provide the thermal upgrade required. Due to building regulations, we were required to provide thermal upgrade to the concrete floor. This meant using 100 PIR Celotex board with a fibre bond screed on top to provide a warm and smooth finish. The original front opening was blocked up using concrete blocks and a new window was installed.
Electrics and plumbing were installed, proving switches, spot lighting and a large radiator. The space was drylined using thermal plasterboard on the external walls and standard plaster boards internally to provide further thermal upgrade. Due to a dwelling above the space, the ceilings were fire rated. The space was then plastered, painted and all joinery fitted including skirting, architraves and French doors. The external block wall was rendered using high build textured paint to create seamless look that blended in with the rest of the house. The furnishing was completed by the client.

The client required a quick turn around and the job was completed within 6 weeks.

The project was relatively challenge free other than having to be mindful of the small space available to work in, particularly when loading in and out materials.

The client was delighted with their completed project and the space has been given a new lease of the life as a light, bright, useable family space.
